Arochukwu community isolates family until confirmation of COVID-19 status of UK returnee

The Arochukwu community on Saturday isolated a family until the Coronavirus (COVID-19) status of a United Kingdom (UK) returnee is confirmed.

The presence and non-establishment of the COVID-19 status of the returnee was already causing tension in the Arochukwu Community when the Transition Committee (TC) chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Council, Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, who was on an enlightenment campaign on the virus pandemic got a tip off from some concerned residents of Amuvi community about the lady.

Mrs. Mabel (surname withheld), reportedly returned from London and arrived in Arochukwu on March 25, allegedly “sneaking into Amuvi, her home village, in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the villagers.”

The TC Chairman immediately mobilized the Task Force Rapid Response Group of health officials of the Local Government Council and law enforcement personnel to confront the situation.

The Task Force Rapid Response Group was created in all the Local Government Areas of Abia State, all town and villages by the State Government to quarantine any person or persons that arrives Abia from Abuja, Lagos or overseas.

After confronting the Lady, the team reported to the traditional ruler of Amuvi community, Eze Ogo Amuvi, Mazi Okoroji, who confirmed that they had indeed banned every member of the Lady’s family from interacting with the rest of the community until the lady’s Coronavirus status is ascertained.
