Nigeria’s COVID-19 figures continues its upward swing with 416 new cases, total infections now 10,578

Nigeria’s record of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections continues its upward swing with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday reporting 416 new cases in the country, bringing the total number of infections to 10,578.

The NCDC, on its official Twitter handle, said that out of the 10,578 confirmed cases, 7,157 are active cases, 3,122 cases have been treated and discharged while 299 deaths have been recorded in 35 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Out of the 299 deaths, 12 were confirmed dead to the virus on Monday.

It explained that most of the fatalities recorded from COVID-19 were cases with other underlying illnesses known as co-morbidities.

The the health agency’s data showed that Monday’s 416 new cases were spread across 19 States and the FCT, with Lagos, as usual, remaining the epicentre of the virus epidemic with with 192 cases.

The breakdown from other States include Edo (41), Rivers (33), Kaduna (30), Kwara (23), Nasarawa (18), Borno (17), FCT (14), Oyo (10), Katsina (7), Abia (5), Delta (5), Adamawa (4), Kano (4), Imo (3), Ondo (3), Benue(2), Bauchi(2), Ogun (2), Niger (1).

While announcing the easing of restrictions on the lockdown measures, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, on Monday in Abuja warned Nigerians to know that the country has not reached the peak of confirmed cases, adding that “the battle against COVID-19 is a long term one.”
