Nigeria sustains induction of digital technological devices in war against insecurity, says Defence Minister

Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) on Tuesday said that Nigeria is sustaining the induction of digital technological devices in the nation’s military campaigns against insecurity which is plaguing parts of the Nation’s territorial integrity.

General Magashi said at the graduation lecture for Course 28 participants, National Defence College, Abuja that Nigeria as a global player is pulling her weight among Nations of the World exploiting digital economy, Security and in other areas of our national lives.

The Defence Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Sab’iu Zakari, contextualised the nexus between security, defence and digital economy spotlighting the positive narrative of digital economy as means of engaging teeming youths and its adaptation negatively on the other hand for perpetuation of Cybercrimes as a tool for undermining National Security.

The Minister noted that “it is in the light of the criminal deployment of digital sophistications and know- how by the non-State actors that he challenged Security and Defence establishments to continue to play key role in the Digital Nigeria as typified by the National Defence College symbolic lectures at all times.”

While commending the leadership of the National Defence College for pursuing the ideals of the College, General Magashi said the country under President MuhammaduBuhari is adopting, adapting and internalising functional global digital Security cum economic templates.

Genral Magashi (rtd) expressed delight over the choice of the topic of the graduation lecture: “Digital Economy and National Development ” delivered by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami whom he described as the master of digital economy.

The Minister who is the Chairman Governing Board of the College noted that it is unprecedented that ICT recently contributed about 14.07 per cent to the Nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) said NDC’S graduation lecture has become a strategic platform for research, training and intellectual discuss and debate for national development imperatives .
