Nigeria records 10 COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday and 239 new infections

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that it recorded 10 deaths linked to Coronavirus (COVID-19) with 239 new infections on Tuesday.

The NCDC said via its official Twitter handle that altogether, Nigeria has 54,247 confirmed cases out of 405,916 sample tests of the virus.

The public health agency noted that out of the 54,247 confirmed cases, 42,010 were treated and discharged, 11,214 are active cases still under treatment while the total number of deaths recorded across the in 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is 1,023.

Data from the NCDC also showed that the 239 new cases were reported from 15 States with Plateau maintaining its lead as the new epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 116 infections, followed by FCT with 33.

Others include Lagos – 19, Ekiti – 12, Kaduna – 11, Ogun – 11, Ebonyi – 8, Benue – 7, Abia – 5, Delta -5, Ondo – 4, Edo – 3, Imo – 2, Osun – 2 and Bauchi – 1.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to continue to take responsibility, stating: “Remember the actions you take determine how people around you will be affected by COVID-19. It is very important to exercise caution and take responsibility: wear a face mask in public, practices hand/respiratory hygiene and maintain  physical distance.”
