NAF airstrikes kills “several” bandits, destroy their camps at Ungwar Ali-Kere, West of Wagini in Katsina State

The Armed Forces of Nigeria on Wednesday said that airstrikes by the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI killed “several” bandits and destroyed their camps at Ungwar Ali-Kere and another location West of Wagini in Katsina State, Northwest region of the country.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said in a statement that the airstrikes at a location near Ungwar Ali-Kere “was achieved through air strikes executed 13 October 2020, on the heels of credible Human Intelligence reports and confirmatory surveillance missions indicating that dozens of armed bandits had established a camp at the location.

“Accordingly, the Air Component dispatched an appropriate force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships, which engaged the location in successive passes, destroying portions of the camp and neutralizing some of the bandits.”

Earlier, General Enenche has stated that the air interdiction mission at a location West of Wagini “was conducted on 8 October 2020.”

He added that the operation employed “a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships after credible Human Intelligence reports and series of confirmatory surveillance missions had shown significant presence of the bandits, along with hundreds of rustled cattle, in the camp. “The attack aircraft subsequently engaged the location in successive runs, destroying portions of the camp and neutralizing some of the bandits.”
