The Nigeria Police in Katsina State has confirmed the abduction of the village head of Gamji, Malam Falalu Galadima, and nine others by bandits in Sabuwa Local Government Area of the State.

The Katsina State Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Gambo Isah, said the Commissioner of Police has directed the Area Commander of the area to immediately swing into action and rescue the 10 victims.

According to Isah, “as I speak with you, our men are in the forest, trying to locate the kidnapped persons and make sure that they are rescued safely.”

A resident, who preferred not to be named for security reasons told Daily Trust that 13 people were kidnapped.

He said the bandits came in large numbers, attacked the village around 1.30 am on Wednesday, shot sporadically and abducted the victims.

“We have counted 13 people so far who were kidnapped, all of them male, including the village head and a Law School student.

“Initially, they kidnapped about 26 people, but halfway into the bush they screened them, taken those 13 with them and sent others back home,” the source said.

In a related development, unidentified gunmen, on Tuesday night, abducted the lawmaker representing Nguroje constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Bashir Muhammed.

Honourable Muhammed was kidnapped in his residence in Jalingo, the State capital.
