Four Policemen gunned down at checkpoint in Calabar, Cross River State capital

The spate of attacks on security personnel has spread from the Southeast geopolitical zone to the South-South region as gunmen shot and killed four Nigeria Police personnel at a checkpoint in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Army confirmed the recovery the corpses of four soldiers killed by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Eastern Security Network (ESN) militia members in Orlu, Imo State.

The same Wednesday, Nigeria Police Headquarters announced that its Abia State Command has “successfully neutralised (4) four attackers, arrested (8) eight persons and recovered arms and ammunition from hoodlums who carried out an unprovoked attack on Abayi Police Station, Aba in Osisioma Ngwa LGA of Abia State in the early hours of 23rd February, 2021.”

And on Wednesday, the Nigeria Police confirmed that some hoodlums killed a Police Officer and burnt a Police Patrol vehicle at a checkpoint along Ekwulobia-Nkpologwu-Uga road, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The killing of the Policemen in Calabar reportedly happened in the wee hours of Thursday, 25 February, 2021.

The gunmen were said to have swooped on the unsuspecting Policemen at Ayanmbat community near Idundu in the Aka Efa area of the Cross River capital.

The Policemen, whose identities have not been disclosed, were said to have been killed while resting on some benches at the location.
