Army moves 26 UN, other humanitarian workers rescued from Dikwa, to Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army has moved 26 humanitarian workers rescued when Boko Haram/ISlamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists invaded and took over Dikwa, to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The 26, who are staff of international agencies including the United Nations and other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) were escorted to Maiduguri by troops of 7 Division Delta Force, together with 195 and 112 Battalions.

They humanitarian workers were trapped in their building in Dikwa. They include 20 males and six females and have been handed over to their officials in Maiduguri.

The troops had earlier foiled an attempt by the terrorists to infiltrate and take over Dikwa town and declare it one of their caliphates, storming it with several gun trucks.

But a source said that the timely deployment of troops by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigerian Army General Abdul Khalifa and the timely and active aerial operations by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) prevented the terrorists from achieving their “sinister objective.”
