Zone 13 Police HQ in Ukpo, Anambra State, inaugurated July 2020, burnt down by gunmen in Monday morning raid

In a surprise attack on early Monday morning, the Zone 13 Police Command located in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, was attacked by unknown gunmen.

Said a source on Monday morning, “Anambra people used to pride themselves as a place with no violent crimes or bandits attack. But this is no more. The land has been desecrated. This is not the State we used to know. Something is going on wrong and the security agencies must get to the rot of this before we lose the essence of who we are.”

Though no life was lost in the attack, many vehicles were burnt during the invasion

The circumstances surrounding the attack are not yet clear, but a video shows the Zonal headquarters administrative building in flames as a result of the attack.

The worry is why the compound was not secured or the gunmen attack repelled by the tens of Police personnel deployed to the Zonal Command.

A similar incident took place at the Uzuakoli Police Station in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State about the same time.

The Nigeria Police has inaugurated its Zone 13 Command Headquarters for Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra states at Ukpo, Dunukofia Council Area of Anambra State.

Prior to the inauguration, Zone 9 Headquarters in Umuahia, Abia State, covered Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi, but with the creation of the new zone, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi have been removed from Zone 9 with headquarters still in Umuahia

An oil magnet, philanthropist and indigene of Ukpo, Prince Arthur Eze, had attracted and facilitated the new zonal headquarters.
