Attahiru+10: FG declares Monday work free day for military, begins 3 days of national mourning

The federal government has declared Monday a work free day for the Armed Forces of Nigeria “in honour of our highly revered Chief of Army Staff, late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others,” the Nigerian Army headquarters announced on Monday morning.

A statement issued on Monday by Army Spokesperson, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said in a statement that in the three-days of national mourning for General Attahiru and the 10 others as declared by the federal government, the National Flag is to be flown at half-mast from Monday to Wednesday.

The Army also said that the 3-Day prayer for the departed souls of General Attahiru and 10 others will take place on Monday morning at the Staff Flag House, Niger Barracks Asokoro Abuja by 0900 hrs.

The full statement reads: “The Federal Government of Nigeria in honour of our highly revered Chief of Army Staff, Late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others has declared Monday 24 May 2021 a work free day for members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“The National Flag is to be flown at half-mast from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 May 2021.

“However, the 3-Day prayer for the departed souls will take place tomorrow Monday 24 May 2021, at the Staff Flag House, Niger Barracks Asokoro Abuja by 0900 hrs(9 am).”
