Less than 24 hours after gunmen razed down the Atta Police station in Njaba Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, another station in Izombe, Oguta LGA of the State has been torched by some gunmen believed to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

But four of the gunmen who participated in the burning of the Izombe Police station were killed during an exchange of gunfire with security agents.

In the same vein, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters located at Ubakala, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State, was on Saturday evening attacked by gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB.

The NIS headquarters is located close to a Nigeria Police station in Ubakala that was previously attacked by the gunmen. Two Policemen died in the earlier attack.

Imo State Police Spokesperson, Bala Elkana, confirmed that the attack at Izombe took place between 7 pm and 10 pm on Saturday.

According to Bala, “The hoodlums in their number launched an offensive on Izombe Police Station but were repelled by the gallant policemen on duty.

“Four hoodlums were neutralised during the attack while others escaped with bullet wounds.”

He added that a mop-up operation is ongoing with a view of arresting other fleeing members of the gang.

Sources said that the gunmen detonated bombs at the NIS building, and as the officers inside were rushing out, the gunmen opened fire on them, killing many.

Also, some vehicles within the compound were also set on fire.

In addition, the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) located at Umuagu, Umuahia was attacked by gunmen earlier on Saturday.
