15 bandits, 1 soldier killed in gunfight with troops in Anguwan Mallam, Kontagora, Niger State

Fifteen bandits were killed in a gun battle with Nigerian Army troops on Saturday in Anguwan Mallam in Kontagora, Niger State.

Unfortunately, a military officer also lost his life int he gunfight.

Sources said that the bandits met with their deaths about 4pm on Saturday when they were sighted by troops on patrol at Anguwan Mallam, near Kontagora town, leading to the firefight.

The source noted that the bandits, numbering over 70, had amassed in the area in their motor cycles waiting to attack the community later in the evening but the presence of the military saved the situation.

And after the gun duel, the residents reported discovering dead bodies of the bandits in the bush, alongside their sleeping kits.

According to the source, “the presence of the military was what saved our community from the Bandits. They came in their number on motorcycles and the people became scared because we don’t have what it takes to face them.

“But many were killed, we discovered dead bodies even today in the morning in the bush. We found their sleeping kits and some other valuable materials and others belonging to them.”

Some of the bandits reportedly escaped through the bushes as the soldiers overpowered them.
