General Yahaya visits 82 Division, NAF GTC Enugu, lauds Air Force “fantastic job” in fight against insurgency, banditry

Chief of Army Staff, Major General Faruk Yahaya, on Tuesday visited the Abakpa Cantonment Enugu headquarters of the 82 Composite Division of the Nigerian Army, charging the troops to remain selfless and disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

General Yahaya also visited the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Ground Training Command (GTC) Enugu, where he lauded the Air Force’s “fantastic job” in fight against insurgency, banditry.

The 82 Division overseers all Nigerian Army operations in the South East region of Nigeria, the beehive of activities of the secessionist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

General Yahaya, who was on his maiden operational visit to the 82 Division Area of Responsibility, said his administration would provide troops with the requisite support including improved welfare and equipment so they could focus on discharging their responsibilities effectively.

In his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding 8(GOC), 2 Division, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, expressed the commitment of the Division to tackle all threats to national security in South Eastern Nigeria.

He lauded the COAS’ concern for the wellbeing of troops and timely operational visit to the Division Area of Responsibility, adding that the visit will shore up troops’ morale as they perform their duties.

Earlier, the COAS had commissioned a remodelled Quarter Guard building, which provides office and accommodation for troops on duty.

He commended the GOC for executing the project and urged the end users to utilize the facility to improve their professional output.

Similarly, General Yahaya paid a courtesy visit to Ground Training Command (GTC) of the Nigerian Air Force, where he commended the synergy existing between the Nigerian Army and the Air Force.

He pledged to sustain the synergy for the success of military operations.

The Army Chief also expressed appreciation for the ‘fantastic job the NAF is doing in support of Land forces in the fight against insurgency and banditry.”
