Major General Hassan Ahmed, former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, who was killed by bandits at Abaji, along Abuja-Lokoja highway, was Friday morning buried at Lungi Barracks Cemetery, Abuja.
General Ahmed, was until his gruesome killing by the bandits, a Director at Army Headquarters.
He was murdered by a group of assailants who also abducted his sister, Safina Ahmed, initially mistaken to be his wife.
They were coming said to be returning from Okene, Kogi State when they ran into an ambush.
Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, had earlier said in a statement on Friday that the deceased senior officer would be accorded a befitting burial at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery on Friday, July 16 by 10. 00am.
According to the statement, “with a heavy heart, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army regret to announce the passing on of Maj.-Gen. Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army.
“A delegation from the Army Headquarters led by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, has visited the widow and other members of the bereaved family.
“Members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Mrs Stella Omozoje, have also visited the family to condole with them.”
