New militant group emerges in Southeast Nigeria, attacks NSCDC checkpoint, kill officers, set vehicle on fire

A new militant group that calls itself ‘Biafra Motherland Warriors’ has emerged in Anambra State.

And they announced themselves by attacking a patrol vehicle of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and killed some personnel.

In a trending video, the group attacked the vehicle, the personnel left their weapons and ran into the bush while they chased the NSCDC personnel, carting away weapons, set the vehicle on fire and zoomed off in their Sienna bus.

The attackers were heard shouting: “This is happening live in Umuleri (Anambra State, neighbours to hometown of Governor Willie Obiano).”

“We are Biafra Motherland Warriors!”

Some of the attackers were also overheard in the video speaking in Igbo urging some of the officers (those who were Igbos) that took to their heels to drop their guns, remove their uniforms and to run into the bush.

The Nigeria Police are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
