Nigeria: South East Governors, other leaders meet, condemn IPOB’s sit-at-home order, killings in the region

Governors of the South East region along with the traditional rulers ended its one-day meeting on Tuesday, condemning the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the every Monday sit-at-home order that is crumbling socio-economic activities in the zone.

The Governors, who met with top traditional and other leaders of thought from the region at Government House, Enugu, declared that the sit-at-home order can no longer be sustained or tolerated mainly because those who issued the order live outside Nigeria.

However, the communique issued after the meeting was silent on the fate of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, whose arrest and detention after repatriation back to Nigeria triggered the sit-at-home crisis.

According to the chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, who read the resolutions of the meeting, “the South East condemned the killings in the region and have agreed to join hands with security agencies to stop the killings.

“The meeting condemned the sit-at-home orders, which are mostly issued by our people in diaspora who do not feel the pains.

“In view of the information that even IPOB had cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that Governors and all people of the South East do everything within the law to ensure that there is no further sit-at-home in the South East and that people are allowed to freely move about in the zone.”
