Traditional ruler of Etekwuru community, Imo State taking refuge at Police Station as alleged IPOB members raze his palace

The the traditional ruler of Etekwuru community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State is currently taking refuge at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mmahu town after gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) set his palace on fire on Thursday night.

The gunmen, apart from burning down his palace, also burnt his private car, a highlander jeep and other property.

Trouble started on Thursday morning following the arraignment of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Federal High Court, Abuja. While some were jubilating, others went on rampage.

Earlier during the day, some suspected IPOB militants were gunned down during a shootout with troops in Abia State while in Imo State, they killed a soldier in a separate incident.

Sources said the gunmen stormed the traditional ruler’s palace at Etekwuru on Thursday night and frantically searched for him.

But since they could not find him or any member of his family, they set the palace on fire.
