Obi Cubana ordeals continue, spends second day with EFCC, passport seized

  • Reports of his release on Tuesday afternoon a hoax, a disinformation cmapaign

The reported release of popular socialite and businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was a hoax as he is spending a second night in the custody of the anti-graft body.

His international passport has also been confiscated by EFCC to prevent him from escaping abroad while still under investigation.

Obi Cubana was arrested about noon on Monday for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

Sources noted that the anti-graft agency quizzed the Anambra-born social media influencer for the second day on Tuesday at its Abuja, Jabi headquarters.

A source stated, “Obi Cubana has not been released, he is still having quality sessions with investigators over alleged money laundering running into millions of naira and tax fraud.

“He will be released when he has satisfactorily responded to all questions relating to his involvement in various illegal deals. As part of investigation, his travel document has been temporarily seized pending the conclusion of investigations.”

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed that the suspect is still in custody, however, said he has no information on the seizure of his passport.

His reported release was a celebration too soon by his associates and misinformation by elements within the agency.

Obviously, Obi Cubana’s media handlers had gone ahead to tout of his release on his social media page, simply writing one word “UNBROKEN” alongside a photograph of himself.

News of Cubana’s release was also first shared by his colleague and friend, Instigator PH via his Instagram page where he wrote: “Thank u Jesus!! @obi_cubana is free. We gat Jesus!!! Dis Dance is for all my fans. I love u all. Breakinh Newz. Obi Cubana is free. Confirmed by me, only 1 instigator. Give away loading.”
