Diego Maradona’s luxury vehicles, home he bought for parents among items on auction block to pay off late Argentine soccer legend’s debts

  • An auction has been set for December 19 in which bidders will be able to purchase two homes and three vehicles once owned by Diego Maradona
  • A judge overseeing Maradona’s estate granted his five surviving children permission to sell off the items, including trophies, balls and clothing
  • Proceeds from the auction will be used to pay for the expenses incurred by Maradona’s children for the management of a warehouse holding his items

Luxury items that include homes and cars, along with other less pricey memorabilia, once owned by soccer legend Diego Maradona will be put up for auction in Argentina next month.

The decision to sell a portion of the Argentine great’s estate was made by his surviving children – Diego, Giannina, Dalma, Jana and Diego Fernando – after their famous father died from a heart attack last year.

Maradona, who earned about $43 million between 1984 and 1991 while leading Napoli to the Serie A crown and helping Argentina capture the World Cup – with his infamous Hand of God goal against England in the 1986 quarterfinals- had barely $100,000 when he died, according to Express.co.uk.

The auction’s top attraction will be a house located in the Buenos Aires upscale neighborhood of Villa Devoto that Maradona gifted his parents in the 1980s after joining the famed Argentine soccer club Boca Juniors.

Tedesco del Rivero instructed that all proceeds will go toward covering the debt that they have incurred with the warehouse where Maradona’s belongings are being stored in two freight containers.

‘The auction is carried out because both the houses and the cars generated expenses that the heirs had to face out of their own pockets,’ Tedesco del Rivero said in a court document. ‘Then this idea came up with the aim of converting everything into money so that it does not generate debts. … Different things are going to be auctioned so that, instead of paying for two storage boxes, between everything in one.’
