‘Unknown Gunmen’ on rampage in Ebonyi State, storm Effium, Ohaukwu community, kill 17 persons

The group of bandits popularly called “Unknown Gunmen’ have continued their rampage in Ebonyi State, storming the Effium community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of the State, killing not less than 17 persons.

Sources noted that the bandits invaded the community on Saturday, shooting sporadically. While the 17 locals were killed, many others sustained injuries.

In the last month, there have been unprecedented attacks in Ebonyi State by the so-called ‘Unknown Gunmen.’

On October 25, 2021, the bandits, numbering about 35, attacked the Police Divisional headquarters at Uwana, Afikpo North LGA, in a midnight ambush, killing one policeman.

The attack on Uwana, Afikpo happened one week after another set of bandits invaded a Police Station in Ohaukwu LGA of the State, setting Police vans ablaze and freeing several detainees.
