Terror bandits take over Abuja-Kaduna highway, kill former Zamfara State Governorship candidate, abduct scores

Alhaji Sagir Hamidu, 2019 All Peoples’ Congress (APC) Gubernatorial candidate in Zamfara State and former Director of Protocol, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been shot dead by bandits, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred around 4pm, Sunday evening.

The politician and proprietor of FAMAKS British Schools in Abuja and Kaduna was reportedly gunned down by bandits who opened fire on his vehicle as well as those of other travellers around Rijana Area, along the ever busy expressway.

Some survivors and security personnel confirmed that occupants of vehicles which slowed down were ushered into the bush while those who didn’t were shot at multiple times.

“The kidnappers took advantage of the damage on the road, which forced on and off-coming motorists to move slowly on a single lane,” a source said.

Attempts to obtain an official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command was unsuccessful as the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige was yet to respond to calls and messages at the time of filing this report.
