Nigeria recorded 167 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, a triple jump over the 55 reported on Sunday.
The NCDC did not offer any explanation for the explosion, with Lagos recording 133 cases, about 80 percent.
There was no death recorded for the second day running. Thus the national death toll remained at 2,980.
According to statistics on its website, NCDC said that “on the 6th of December 2021, 167 new confirmed cases were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 214 789 cases have been confirmed, 207,478 cases have been discharged and 2980 deaths have been recorded in 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Nigeria also have a total of 4,331 active cases of COVID-19 and they are undergoing treatment in various isolation centres across the country.
Altogether, Nigeria has conducted a total of 3,629,527 sample tests since the virus was announced on February 27, 2020.
The NCDC added that “the 167 new cases are reported from 9 States-Lagos (113), FCT (22), Plateau (16), Kano (4), Abia (3), Kaduna (3), Rivers (3), Bauchi (2) and Delta (1).
