Nigeria: Terror bandits kidnap two Muslim clerics in Ogun State, demand N15 million ransom

Terror bandits have abducted two Islamic clerics along Ayetoro-Abeokuta road in the Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.

The kidnap came just after the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of two persons suspected to be members of a terrorist syndicate in the Ijebu Ode area of the State.

Sources confirmed that the abduction took place on Saturday around 10pm, shortly after they arrived from a public lecture.

A source noted that the two Muslim clerics – Hussein AbdulJelil and  Ilyas Muhammed Jamiu, were kidnapped by the five-man kidnapping syndicate who had eaten food prepared at the residence of the victims.

It noted that the kidnappers, who wielded heavy ammunition, also seized the phones of the victims.

Already, the family members of the victims have been contacted by the kidnappers, demanding N15 million ransom to secure the release of the clerics.

The Ogun State Police PRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the attack, said other security personnel, including local hunters, have commenced combing the bush in the area with a view to rescuing the victims unhurt.

He said: “Yes, we are aware. Our men have been there with others including local hunters combing the bush.

“We will get them. We have got others in Ijebu-Ode and other areas in the state. We will get them and deal with them.”
