Bandits burn man alive in his car in Katsina, youths angry, block major roads

Two weeks after the outrage over the burning alive of passengers in Sokoto State, bandits have set a man on fire inside his car in Fasakari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Deputy Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly and member representing Faskari constituency, Dalhatu Tafoki, lamented that the burning of the victim in his car is one of the four attacks recorded in the area within a week.

Tafoki said some other persons were killed while others were abducted.

“They attacked Kwakware village where they abducted 17 people, mostly women. The following day, the stopped a driver, killed and burnt him in his car. Only yesterday, Tuesday, they killed seven people and abducted five, and the place where the attacks took place was just a short distance from a military checkpoint,” he said.

Meanwhile, aggrieved residents of communities along Funtua-Sheme Road in Katsina state have blocked Funtua-Gusau Road over bandits attack, trapping travellers along the route.

A traveller, Imam Abubakar, said: “We are trapped here; I cannot tell the number of vehicles plying the road that are blocked by the protesters. As we speak with you, we can hear gunshots as police and military men are deployed to the area, but the protesters have blocked the road, burning tyres.”

Sources said that the protest arose from the bandits’ attack on some communities around the Faskari area where they killed seven persons and abducted five women.

“In Kanon Haki village, five persons were killed by the bandits while two persons were killed in Unguwar Alhaji Ibrahim Maiwada,” a source said.

The source noted the villages were attacked around 9pm on Monday.

Last week, Governor Bello Masari led some elders to President Muhammadu Buhari over the killings in the state.

The President had assured them that efforts were being made to address the insecurity in the North West and other parts of the country.
