Bandits Unleash Waves of Kidnappings in Imo State

  • Bandits kidnap former Imo State Assembly Speaker, popular businessman, traditional ruler, daughter, wife of former LGA chairman, others

Bandits branded ‘Unknown Gunmen’ have continued their wave of kidnapping in Imo State as they abducted a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Lawman Duruji.

Sources indicate that the former Speaker was kidnapped on Saturday at Oriagu community, Ehime Mbano LGA while returning from a function.

Similarly, the bandits on Sunday kidnapped a popular Owerri-based businessman fondly referred to as Ezzybee as he was on the way to watch a local football match.

This was just as the gunmen abducted a traditional ruler at T-junction, Ubomiri in Orlu Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State.

The monarch was traveling with his little daughter when the bandits overtook his Range Rover Jeep on the Orlu road and whisked them into the bush.

In the same vein, the wife of a former chairman of Okigwe LGA, Frank Onwunere, was kidnapped last week while some persons were abducted at Okwelle junction, Onuimo LGA and and at the Umbomiri junction, Mbaitoli and Amaraku in the Mbano LGAs of the State.

Confirming the incidents, the Imo State Police Command Spokesperson, Micheal Abbatam, said that the Police is on the trail of the abductors.
