I Feel Like a Bird Released From Cage, says Admiral Daji, former Commandant, NDC, Abuja on Retirement

The immediate past Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Oladele Daji (rtd), on Monday said he felt like a caged bird while serving in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Admiral Daji, who joined the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in September 1984 as a member of the 36th Regular Combatant Course, spoke to journalists in Abuja during a pulling-out parade organised in his honour by the NDC, said: “I feel like a bird that has just been released from the cage after being caged for a while.

“I feel very elated, I thank God Almighty for taking me this far.

“I thank the Armed Forces for the opportunity given to me to serve in various capacities, and more importantly, my family members who have always been there for me.

“Friends and well-wishers who have cheered me on over these years. At times, it would seem as if everything was so difficult, you would want to give up, but when you see people around you, you strive on.

“Overall, it has been a very rewarding experience serving my country.

“I’ll be ever willing and ready to serve Nigeria if called back, either in uniform or out of uniform. I’ll serve my country because this country has invested so much in me and I need to give back to society.”
