Nigeria: Terrorists Kill 17 in Fresh Niger State Attacks

No fewer than 17 persons were killed at the weekend during attacks by terrorists in Mashegu and Lavun Local Governments Areas of Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria.

The terrorists also abducted several others during the attacks.

In Mashegu LGA, the Chief of Staff to Council Chairman, Mr Umar Begi and his father were shot dead during the raid.

The communities raided include: Sahon-Rami, Igbede, Chekaku, Ubegi, Maishankafi and Poshi on Saturday and that eight people were killed in the raid with several feared abducted.

In Lavun LGA, 10 communities including Egbako, Dabban, Kupa, Ndaruka, Tsogi, Mawogi, Yemi, Managi, Kanko and Gogaga were attacked by the terrorists who invaded the communities in motorcycles.

Although the community vigilante group were on the ground to chase the gunmen away, they couldn’t repel the terrorists who killed some of their men.

A resident of Egbako, Mustapha Umar, said he terrorists moved from one community to another without resistance and operated freely. Related Posts

“They started the operation around noon, moving from one village to another unchallenged. For now, we have only discovered the dead bodies of three persons,” he said.

Another resident of Kupa community, Ahmed Musa said: “I can confirm that terrorists invaded my village and they sl attacked other villages in Lavun local government. For now, we do not know how many people they killed or kidnapped. We are yet to take stock.”

Several residents have been displaced in the attacks as they fled their communities to avoid being caught up in another attack.

Chairman of Lavun LGA, Ibrahim Pata, who confirmed the incident, said that vigilante groups have been mobilised to the area.

He said that one person was killed and another sustained gun injury, describing the attacks as insane, barbaric and inhuman.
