People Never Thought I Will Prosper As Musician — Davido

Multiple award-winning artiste, David Adeleke also known as Davido says people never thought he would prosper as a musician just as he recounted his first experience in London.

The singer who was featured on a recent episode of ‘Bitarsweet’, a show on The BeatFM London 103.6 FM, reflected on his musical career.

When asked how his friends described him back then when he began his career, he said, “It was funny but I was so small then. We were like four in the crew (Annie, Anico,Tobi and Emeka).

“I think I will say I was not the best in academics but I feel like they believed, because I really loved music. lf there was anything they believed was that I was serious, we used to record music, we were like a group.

“So we were rappers, we did a talent show and won and I took it seriously. Any time they see me they would be like eh!!! It happened… It’s great to see! It’s a good feeling like when someone that knew you when you were just like nobody,” he added.

Davido who was also asked how he felt when performing in the UK said,” The UK has always been amazing because it was my first international show out of Nigeria. My coming to the UK like then when I started music was like yoh!! I remembered because I grew up around D’banj and some of my mentors because my cousin used to work for them so I always use to be around them in their crib.

“So I will be in the crib and I will see them with bags and will be like where are you guys going they will be like we have a show in London, I’m looking at them leaving the house like they all go to London, going to shut down London and I will just ask my cousin what does it feel like when you go to London with them.

“But I used to come for holidays here cause my dad has a house here; so we used to come here. So D’banj at the show, I just told my dad I want to stay at the show and just watch. I was the youngest and they all just like me. At a point, I performed to a song that nobody knew but it was an opportunity and from that day I was like I need to do this.”(sic)

The DMW boss has been in the media after he successfully concluded his 02 Arena concert in London.
