Nigeria: Gunmen Raze Ohanaeze President’s Country Home, Also Attack Divisional Police Headquarters In Imo State

The terror group, ‘Unknown Gunmen’ on Saturday morning struck at the country home of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, at Awo-Omanma, Oru East Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, razing the complex down.

Sources confirmed that the gunmen arrived at the apex Igbo leader’s home in vehicles, throwing explosive devices at the house.

Luckily, Professor Obiozor was not at home when his house was attacked.

According to the source: “The country home of Professor George Obiozor was burnt. The CCTV cameras captured the attack. Thank God Prof was not at home when they came.”

Obiozor had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the attack but one of the leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who prefers anonymity, said that he had called Obiozor to commiserate with him on the incident.

He called on the police to fish out those who carried out this arson.

In a related development, the Divisional Police headquarters in Umuguma Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State has been set ablaze by another band of gunmen.

A source noted that the gunmen invaded the Police station at about 04:00 hours on Saturday morning and attacked police officers on duty. Then, freeing suspects in detention, they threw petrol bombs, setting ablaze the Police station.

Residents said the gunmen shot into the air during the attack they were frightened as they ran into bushes for safety.

The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, while confirming the report of the attack said no however debunked allegations that police officers were killed.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Rabiu Hussaini, has activated all the Rapid Response Team and they are on the trail of perpetrators.
