Police Take Over Cross River House Of Assembly After Court Sacks 18 Members

The Nigeria Police have deployed different units of its Force and taken over all routes leading to the premises of Cross River State House of Assembly following the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja which sacked 18 members of the House.

The court also sacked two members of the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on whose platform they won the election to the All Progressive Congress (APC)

Sources confirmed that early as 6am, the Police deployed heavily armed Anti-Kidnapping, Cultism Squad and regular Police units inside the premises of the Assembly.

Some of the Policemen were also seen standing close to Governor Ben Ayade’s office, which is a stone’s throw.

Opposite the route to the Assembly which houses the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar were some men suspected to be political party supporters who were seen smoking and sipping hot drinks.

Motorists and passersby are already having difficulty meandering through the crowd of security men and their vans.

A source noted that “yes, the security build up is as a result of the judgment delivered at Abuja High Court by Justice Taiwo Taiwo which sacked 18 law makers from the Cross River State House of Assembly and two from the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The ruling APC has claimed to have applied to the court for stay of execution of the judgment, while the party proceeded to the Appeal Court.
