Sharia Court Jails Man 3 Months For Stealing Generator From Mosque

A Sharia court at Rigasa, Kaduna State on Wednesday sentenced one Hussaini Ismail to three months in a correctional facility for stealing a generator belonging to a mosque.

The judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, gave the ruling after the accused pleaded guilty to the offence.

He, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and ordered that he paid N50,000 as compensation for the stolen generator.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Sambo Maigari, said one Bashir Abdulaziz reported the matter at the Rigasa Police division on March 18, 2022.

“The complainant reported that on February 20, at about 10am, one Hussaini Ismail of Tudun Barde, Rigasa, came to the mosque and deceived worshipers.

“He told them he wanted to repair the mosque’s faulty generator for free as a service to God but refused to return the generator,” the prosecutor told the court.

The prosecutor said the generator was worth N120,000 and prayed the court to compel the accused to pay and punish him in accordance with the law.
