Joint Task Force Raid Nine ‘Unknown Gunmen’ Camps, Destroy Shrines In Anambra State As Their Native Doctors Flee

A Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising the nation’s security agencies in Anambra State have began raids on nine camps belonging to ‘Unknown Gunmen’ in locations in the State’s South Senatorial District.

Also, nine of the shrines used by the hoodlums for oath-taking were also raided by the JTF and destroyed.

This is just as troops of the Nigeria Army on Sunday engaged gunmen in Ekwulobia, headquarters of Aguata Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra State at about 5:15pm.

Sources said the military inflicted heavy casualties on the gunmen.

The camps raided include those located in Aguluezechukwu in Aguata LGA; Ebenato community in Nnewi South LGA; Ezinifite also in Nnewi South LGA and Ichi in Ekwusigo LGA.

Other areas include parts of Osumoghu, Lilu and some parts of Ukpor in Nnewi South and Ihiala LGAs.

Sources confirmed that residents of the communities who served as informants to the hoodlums were also in arrested in the intelligence-driven raids and they are already making useful statements.

A source also said most native doctors had fled from their homes because some of their colleagues who were arrested had been providing names of those involved in killings and kidnappings in the State.

The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said it was too early to begin to count the successes in the war against terror in the State.
