India: Chandigarh Woman Cheated Of Rs 3.25L, Police Suspect “Nigerian Nationals On This Dishonest Case”

Chandigarh Police on Tuesday mentioned that they had lodged an FIR on the grievance of a Sector 28-based lady who claimed that she had been cheated of Rs 3.25 lakh by on-line fraudsters, who trapped her by a matrimonial web site. The incident occurred in 2021.

In response to the police, the lady had made a profile on a matrimonial web site, after which a person claiming to be a physiotherapist settled within the USA acquired in contact together with her after accessing her particulars on-line. As per particulars, the lady then began usually speaking with the suspect, who recognized himself as Amit Trivedi, on telephone calls.

Later, the person allegedly informed the lady that he shall be travelling to India to satisfy her for marriage objective.

Later, the lady informed the police, that she obtained a name from an unknown individual, who claimed to be from the airport authority. The caller then allegedly informed her that that they had detained a person who had flown in from Mumbai airport and was carrying an enormous quantity of American {dollars} with him.

“They informed the lady that she must deposit a tax of Rs 3.25 lakh on September 1, 2021, or else her good friend shall be arrested. Accordingly, the lady made the fee from her account, following which she realised that she had been conned.

SHO of cyber cell police station, inspector Hari Kumar, mentioned, “We’ve lodged a case and recognized sure suspects within the case. They are going to be arrested shortly. We suspect the involvement of some Nigerian nationals on this dishonest case.”
