DSS Warns Sheikh Gumi, Others Against “Unguarded Utterances Over Tukur Mamu,” Says They Should Await Court Proceedings

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday warned against “unguarded utterances” on the arrest of the terrorists/bandits’ negotiator and Publisher of Kaduna-based Desert Herald, Tukur Mamu.

Saying that it “will cease further comments on the subject matter since the court will determine its course,” the DSS enjoined the public to “desist from making unguarded utterances and await the court proceedings.”

The renowned Islamic scholar, Dr Ahmed Gumi, had earlier called on the Nigerian Government and security agencies to either charge the Desert Herald publisher to court or release him, stressing that any unjustified arrest of Nigerians can be considered an act of terrorism.

The full statement signed by its Spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya reads: “The Department of State Services (DSS) has followed, with keen observation, overzealous comments by sections of the public in view of issues relating to the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mamu.

“The Service wishes that it is not distracted with some of the skewed narratives pervading the media space. Instead, it requests to be left alone to concentrate on the ongoing investigations, the outcomes of which have remained mindboggling.

“Meanwhile, the Service will cease further comments on the subject matter since the court will determine its course.

“Consequently, the public is hereby enjoined to desist from making unguarded utterances and await the court proceedings.”
