In the first decade of the 21st century, P-Square came into their own and shook Africa. The talented twins became sensations across the continent and pushed the envelope in terms of showmanship and work ethic.
Considering how long they have managed to remain relevant (even with their hiatus in recent times), no one can doubt their versatility and their ability to adapt to changing times.
Since getting back together in 2021, they’ve released the single “Ihe Geme” and performed on stages across Nigeria. To kick off a new era, they have also put together the P-Square 100 Cities Reunion Tour which is currently in motion.
Their latest stop is the Royal Albert Hall in London which was packed to the rafters on the 21st of September. In typical fashion, they brought the house down!
Fans sang along as they performed timeless hits that stretch far back in time. The audience definitely got value for their money as the brothers danced and crooned away.
Having done a number of shows in the United States of America, they made their way to London where they have a strong following among the UK community.
They also got some help from established legendary acts like D’Banj, Awilo Longomba, and Weird MC.
No one can doubt P-Square’s influence on the Nigerian music industry. Even with the limited resources at their disposal when they were students at the University of Abuja (while juggling school and music), their belief in themselves was their guiding light.
In 2001, they caught a break when they won the “Grab Da Mic” competition, and Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album “Last Nite” which was released under Timbuk2 Music.
P-Square was also nominated as “Most Promising African Group” in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album. They eventually won the 2003 Amen Award for “Best R&B Group”. After this string of success from 2001 to 2003, it was clear they were destined for the very top.
On 25 September 2017, numerous media outlets reported that the group disbanded. Reports about a breakup surfaced after Peter reportedly sent a termination letter to the group’s lawyer. Prior to this report, the duo disbanded in 2016, supposedly over a disagreement about the role of their manager who is their senior brother.
The split was after over a decade and a half of sharing their music with the world.
Fortunately for everyone involved, on 17 November 2021, the duo ended their spat and reconciled.
Hopefully, the despondent era of their feud will be the last time we will see them part ways
