International Day for PWDs: 4,000 Persons With Disabilities Register for Free Medical Care, Other Benefits in Jigawa State, Says National Vice Chairman

NO fewer than 4,000 Persons With Disabilities (PWD) have registered t enjoy free medical care service in JIgawa State, a facility being offered by the State government.

The Northwest Vice Chairman of PWD association, Comrade Muhammad Usman, said at the International Day for Persons With Disabilities at the NUT State secretariat Dutse, Jigawa State capital that “Jigawa State is the first in Northern Nigeria to sign the disability law since 2017, ahead of National Disability Act that was signed in 2018.

Stating that the law has a lot of provisions to support lives of PWD, Usman said the JIgawa State Association of Persons With Disability is leading in terms in Northern Nigeria, listing some of their achievements to include social security allowance, free education policy for both persons with disabilities and their children, inclusive education framework and establishment of disability desk offices across the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to him, members of the association also enjoy “free medical care services to over 4,000 persons with disabilities, establishment of Jigawa disability fund and above all signing of disability law respectively.”

He said that the support include the education, health, employment, empowerment as well as political inclusion and protection against any form of discrimination.

He further explained that the disability community in the State is being supported to attend local, national and international conferences across the globe.
