An Abuja-based concerned voter, Ken Eluma Asogwa has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to order the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation to safeguard the life of Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, by enforcing his safety, thereby protecting the future of the applicant.
According to the documents filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja on Friday January 13, 2023, Ken Eluma Asogwa, who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Afri Forecasts, said that he was alarmed that in all the campaign rallies, adequate security is not provided for Peter Obi as he campaigns all over Nigeria.
“In particular, on the 12th of January 2023, Mr Peter Gregory Obi was in Enugu, Enugu State for his campaign as part of his ongoing presidential campaign.
“In the said campaign in Enugu, Mr Peter Gregory Obi was surrounded by a mammoth crowd which made it impossible for him to pass and he was hurriedly and luckily taken away from the crowd for safety by unauthorized persons.
Ken Eluma Asogwa further said that Mr Peter Gregory Obi’s life was put in great and grave danger, and the possibility of personal harm to the life of Mr Peter Gregory Obi was visible and he was almost stampeded in the process.
He reiterated that the Police and DSS have a statutory duty to provide adequate security and protect the life of Mr Peter Gregory Obi.
“The acts of the Respondents aforesaid in not providing adequate security are illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional, Ken Eluma Asogwa said.
He, therefore, sought the orders and interventions of the court to safeguard the life of Mr Peter Gregory Obi and protect the future of the applicant.
