Elections: GOC Of Army’s 6 Division Charge Troops To Remain Apolitical

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander (LCC) Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) Major General Olufemi Oluyede has charged troops of 16 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 2 OPDS to remain apolitical during the forthcoming general elections in the country.

General Oluyede gave the charge during his operational visit to Headquarters 16 Brigade Nigerian Army on Wednesday 22 February 2023.

He urged the troops to strictly adhere to Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Nigerian Army (NA) Personnel during Operation Safe Conduct 2023.

The GOC/LCC said Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has directed all officers and soldiers of the NA to remain neutral throughout the general elections and assist the Nigeria Police to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order during the elections.

Oluyede used the occasion to remind the troops to strictly enforce restriction of movement politely and force protection during the elections.

He further charged the troops to maintain maximum alert and vigilance during the Operation Safe Conduct 2023.

The GOC /LCC admonished the troops to uphold the name and glory of the NA during and after the general elections. He however warned that any officer/ soldier found wanting will be dealt with decisively, adding that civilian would continue to respect officers/ soldiers when they do what is right.

Highlights of the visit were inspection of Quarter Guards, address of the troops by the GOC/LCC, 10 in-cadet push up exercise, exchange of souvenirs between the GOC/LCC and Commander 16 Brigade NA / Sector 2 OPDS Brig Gen Sadisu Yakasai and signing of Visitor’s Book.
