Chris Azubogu Escapes Assassination Attempt By Political Thugs At Nnewi North INEC Secretariat On The Orders Of Serving Senator – Azubogu Media Office

Last night (February 26, 2023), an attempt was made on the life of the 2023 APGA Candidate in last Saturday’s Anambra South senatorial election on the express orders of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah who ordered his gang of thugs, to the hearing of all, to kill Honourable Chris Azubogu, a ranking sitting legislator representing the good people of Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, if he stepped out of his SUV.

That was after they had shot and punctured the tyres of Azubogu’s SUV.

Eye witnesses account narrated how Sen. Ubah went physical, pulling Azubogu’s SUV door handle and threatening to have him shot by his thugs if he dare steps out of the car.

While the above scenario was playing out, Sen. Ubah’s thugs in their numbers were shooting sporadically into the air; perhaps, in an attempt to provoke DSS operatives attached to Rep. Azubogu into reacting; but the operatives were professional to the core in resisting the provocation.

The situation was eventually brought under control by men of the Nigeria Army attached to the Nnewi North INEC office on election duty, who also evacuated Azubogu out of danger in the company of DSS Operatives while the Sen. was fuming around.

Azubogu had arrived the INEC office earlier to submit a petition to the Electoral Officer, which he did in the presence of the Nnewi North Transitional Council Chairman.

As though he sensed that this will happen, Azubogu had, before the election, written the NSA, DG – SS, The IGP and the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo on the need for all candidates to commit to peaceful conduct during the elections.

In the light of the above, it is disheartening that Sen. Ubah’s media aides could rush to social media space to attempt to turn truth on its head.

Curiously, what most of them have refused to learn is that antecedent don’t lie.

That is the only reason they would attempt to associate the person of Azubogu with involvement in violence, when a revisit of history would reveal that it is Ifeanyi Ubah who has a history of resorting to use of violence during elections.

For example, it is on record that in 2015, at the Ihiala LGA Collation Center, Ifeanyi Ubah and his thugs attacked the convoy of Obyjackson while attempting to prevent INEC officials from collating Ihiala NASS Election results at the Ihiala INEC office.

That unfortunate attack led to the abrupt loss of two lives and a rain of bullets on Obyjackson’s G-Wagon bullet proof SUV after he took refuge in the vehicle.

Lately, at the twilight of the campaign window that preceded last Saturday’s election, Ifeanyi Ubah had twice attempted to provoke Azubogu’s convoy at Obi Umudim and elsewhere. But Rep Azubogu refused to embrace the ignominy that he is ever willing to embrace.

On the day of the election, he was seen moving from one polling boot to another in Nnewi trying to intimidate and deter opponents’ supporters from voting their preferred choices.

In his own way and refined style, even before this incident, Azubogu had already forwarded to the relevant authorities, a petition against infringements on the electoral laws by Sen. Ubah, as witnessed during the Saturday, February 25, 2023 Anambra South senatorial election in Nnewi North and parts of Nnewi South.

Finally, it is necessary to reiterate that Azubogu was only at the Nnewi North INEC office last night to submit a copy of the petition to the EO. And gladly, the Nnewi North LG Transition Committee Chairman was with him when he did just that. He was on his way out when security details attached to Sen. Ubah attacked his vehicle.
