Nigerian Soldier Goes Berserk, Gun Down Commander, 2 Others Before Killing Self In Zuru, Kebbi State

A soldier went berserk on Sunday at a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kebbi State, killing his Commander, the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) and another soldier in Kebbi State.

The soldier, Lance Corporal Nwobodo Chinonso of 223 Battalion Zuru, Kebbi State, was deployed at FOB Rabah where on Sunday evening he opened fire on his superiors.

A source told Global Upfront Newspapers (GUN) that the three personnel killed include the Commander of FOB Rabah, Lieutenant TI Sam-Oladipo; the CSM, Staff Sergeant Iliyasu Inusa and Private Attahiru Mohammed.

The source confirmed that the soldier carried out the killings “inside the Command accommodation before killing himself.”

Already, the Commander of 8 Division Garrison and the Commanding Office (CO) 26 Battalion have visited the scene of the killings.

The corpses of the FOB Commander, the CSM and the Private have been moved to the Usman DanFodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto.

The Nigerian Army has launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings.
