Peter Obi Visits Jennifer Efedi, Lagos Woman Stabbed In The Face On February 25th Presidential Election And Still Voted

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday visited Mrs Jennifer Efedi, the woman who was attacked and wounded by political thugs in Lagos during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Obi said in a Twitter post that Mrs Efedi “is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy.”

The Presidential candidate said “she is my point of contact with every Nigerian who suffered similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights and contribute to a new Nigeria.”

He acknowledged her for her “bravery and resoluteness,” describing her as “a true manifestation of Profile in Courage for a new Nigeria.”

The full Twitter post reads: “Today, I visited Mrs Jennifer Efedi.  She was attacked on 25 February in an attempt to stop her from voting. She stood her ground.  Jennifer is one of the great icons of Nigeria’s democracy. She is my point of contact with every Nigerian who suffered similar fate in their bid to exercise their voting rights, & contribute to a new Nigeria. Like many Nigerians, I acknowledge her bravery & resoluteness. Jennifer is a true manifestation of Profile in Courage for a new Nigeria.”

Mrs Efedi was attacked by political thugs at a polling unit in the Surulere area of Lagos State during the Presidential and National Assembly polls as they stormed the location and destroyed election materials.

They hit people that tried to confront them including the brave woman who sustained a head injury.

A social media user who said the unrest happened in his area posted a video of Mrs Efedi receiving stitches at a health centre. After the treatment, she still returned to cast her vote after calm was restored.

A tweet celebrating her on the election day hit 970,000 likes in two hours.
