Obidient Spirit At Work As Labour Party Slashes Imo State Governorship Nomination From Fee From N25m To N15m

  • To Refund N25m Nomination Fee To Deceased Imo Gov Aspirant’s Family

The Obidient Movement operating under the Labour Party platform has continued to show its unique characteristic as a populist reformist political organization as its intervention has led to the review of its nomination form fee especially for the Imo State Governorship election.

It has therefore reduced the gubernatorial nomination fee for the forthcoming Imo State Governorship election from N25 million to N15 million following the median meeting between Labour Party leadership with their elected National Assembly legislators in Abuja on Tuesday.

It was agreed at the meeting that the nomination fee be slashed to N15 million following protests by members of the Obidient Movement.

National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure, said the downward review is in response to the wishes of their members and to also show that Labour Party is a listening party and obedient to the wishes of its members.

According to Abure: “We are here to serve them and to do their wish he said as he announced the new amount of N15 million.

“The Presidential flag bearer and the leader of the party, Peter Obi is known for his brand of politics that plays down on the influence of money in our politics. Rather than wealth and fame, Obi wants competence, character and capacity to be the driving force of our politics.

“Obi is on record to have reiterated that ‘if we want to take back our country we must not alienate critical segments like youths and women who are vulnerable when you put money up in the ceiling.’”

Meanwhile, Abure says the party will refund the N25 million nomination fee paid by a deceased Governorship aspirant of the party in Imo State, Humphrey Anumudu, to his family.

Abure, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday after meeting with National Assembly-elect members of the party.

Anumudu had purchased the party’s form to contest the LP primary ahead of the November 11 Governorship election in Imo State but died last week.

Abure, in Abuja on Tuesday, said the party decided to return the nomination fee to the family of the deceased to show empathy and compassion.

Addressing newsmen, he said, “You will recall that one of our aspirants in Imo State lost his life. I am pleased to announce to members of the public and members of the Labour Party family and his immediate family that the party will refund the nomination fee of N25 million that he spent.

“We feel that we need to do this the support the family and show leadership of compassion, of empathy and that is whet the Labour Party stands for.”
