Hilda Baci: Nigerian Chef Sets 100hrs New World Record For Longest Time In Cooking Marathon

Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci on Monday night set a brand new Guinness World Record of 100 hours for the longest cooking time by an individual as she ended her cooking marathon.

Hilda Baci had early Monday morning broken the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual cook.

By 08:32am on Monday, Hilda Baci had cooked for 88 hours and 32 minutes to equal the record which was previously set by an Indian chef, Lata Tondon.

Tondon on her own part had achieved the feat after cooking for 87 hours, 45 minutes and 00 secs back in the year 2019.

Hilda carried on despite having broken the record as she stated that she planned to cook for 96 hours, thereby setting a new world record as the first human on earth to spend such an amount of time cooking.

The Nigerian chef, however, made a U-turn at 4pm as she disclosed that she was fully ready to reach 100 hours of marathon cooking.

She never relented on her vision to set a new record and at exactly 8pm on Monday, she reached 100 hours of marathon cooking.

She had actually launched into the competition on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at exactly 4pm when she put on her cooker.

The Cookathon has garnered attention both online and at the physical venue where celebrities have been trooping in to support the chef.

Recall that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has also shown his support for Hilda.

Sanwo-Olu on Sunday cheered the foodpreneur at the event currently being held at Amore Gardens in the highbrow Lekki area of Lagos.

Also, the lead pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre in Lagos, Bolaji Idowu and actor, Charles Okocha amongst others visited the chef.

Asides the supporters, notable Nigerian leaders including President-elect, Bola Tinubu, Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi echoed their support for Hilda Baci.

Baci is not new to cooking competitions, she was a participant in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021.

The highly talented 27-year-old chef made Nigeria proud by winning the competition and walking away with a grand prize of $5000.
