Emirs of Kano, Bichi Booed At Inauguration Ground For NNPP Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

Teeming supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) booed the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, venue of the inauguration ceremony for the new Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Immediately, the first-class monarch arrived the venue, angry crowed started shouting on top of their voices, booing the Emir.

A similar treatment was meted to Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, younger brother of the Kano Emir.

But security operatives quickly moved in and escorted the monarchs to their seats.

On April 23, 2023, the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabi’u Kwankwaso said  the incoming government the of Abba Yusuf, the Governor-elect of Kano will review the dethronement of the 14th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.

This fueled fears that the Emirs of Kano, Bichi and others may be dethroned.

Sanusi, who became emir in the final term of Kwankwaso as Governor, was dethroned by outgoing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Ganduje was the Deputy Governor at the time the former Emir was installed.

Sanusi was removed on March 9, 2020, and also banished from Kano and sent to Loko, a remote community in Nasarawa State, while the expenses of the emirate under him were probed.

Ganduje had also split the emirate into five and appointed emirs who were at par.

Kwankwaso stated in the viral video that the dethronement and balkanisation of the Kano emirate would be reviewed by Yusuf.

He said, “We have campaigned and as you know we are popular in Nigeria especially in Kano state, we are now back and God willing we will continue with the good works our administration left. This incoming governor and his team will take them up.”

“As elders, we will continue to advise them to do the right thing. We tried not intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any Emir, but now, an opportunity has come.”
