Coup D’etat: Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea Juntas To Defend Niger Republic Against Any Alleged French Military Attack

  • Burkina Faso, Mali to help in softening impact of ECOWAS “economic and humanitarian sanctions”

Burkina Faso on Monday said it is ready to give military assistance to Niger Republic in the event they are attack over the coup d’etat in the country.

The Niger Republic junta has announced that France is on the verge of attacking the country alongside the regional group, ECOWAS as part of efforts to restore President Mohamed Bazoum back to power.

A statement from the Communication Directorate of the Faso Presidency said that the country’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore and his Malian counterpart, Colonel Assimi Goita, had at their meeting in Saint Petersburg, July 27, 2023 during the Russia-Africa summit “agreed to stand ready to assist Niger, against any violation of its territorial integrity.”

The statement also said that they have already submitted “a request for technical and military assistance” to Russian President Vladimir Putin towards providing “technically and materially to support this initiative.”

The full statement reads: “The Faso Presidency has learned with dismay the serious sanctions imposed on Niger by CEDEAO on Sunday 30th July 2023 in Abuja.

“To that end, she informs the public that in anticipation of the conclusions of this summit, the President of the Transition, Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and the President of the Malian Transition, Colonel Assimi GOITA, during their meeting in Saint Petersburg, July 27, 2023 agreed to stand ready to assist Niger, against any violation of its territorial integrity.

“A request for technical and military assistance has been submitted to Russian President Vladimir Putin to technically and materially support this initiative.

“During their face-to-face meeting, they also spoke by telephone with Lieutenant Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, the Head of State of Guinea who is a member of the project.

“In addition, they have trained their technical services to quickly study solutions to be adopted by the two countries in order to help soften the likely economic and humanitarian sanctions that the CEDEAO summit would adopt against Niger.”
