Insecurity: Vacate Off-campus Residences To Avoid Kidnap By Terrorists, Federal University Gusau Warns Students

The Federal University, Gusau (FUGUS) has given up on the security of its students who are living in private accommodations, warning students resident in off-campus area of Damba on the outskirts of Gusau to relocate and be safe from terrorists.

In a statement on Sunday by the university’s Information Officer, Malam Umar Usman, FUGUS advised students to relocate to the Gusau, the State capital or to Sabon Gida area, now well secured by armed security operatives.

An unspecified number of students were abducted by terrorists on Saturday 14 September 2023 from their off campus residence at Sabon Gida, in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State.

In the early hours of Sunday, Nigerian troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Zamfara State rescued four of the kidnapped students.

Explaining the imperative of the students vacating their off-campus residences, Usman stated that those living on the outskirts of Gusau, especially those in Damba were more vulnerable to bandits’ attacks.
