Olu of Warri Hosts Emir of Zaria, Calls for More Inter-Ethnic Visits By Traditional Rulers

The Olu of Warri, his Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III said that visits between members of different ethnic groups, especially their leaders, would help unify the country.

He said this while welcoming the Emir of Zazzau (Zaria), His Royal Majesty, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli to his home in Warri, Delta State, on Thursday, November 30th, 2023.

The Olu said he was especially happy to play host to such a rare visitor to Delta state, because such visits between other highly regarded monarchs have not been common.

He said that Nigeria would profit when such visits among both the leaders and the ordinary citizens become commonplace because such visits would help Nigerians to further understand and appreciate members of the other ethnic groups.

The understanding gained from such visits, he said, would help make Nigeria a more peaceful and more united country as people would appreciate the unity in diversity among the members of Nigeria’s various ethnic groups.

The Emir of Zaria, who will be conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Public Affairs by the Western Delta University (WDU), Oghara, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State on Saturday 2/12/2023, arrived the Osubi Airport, near Warri, in the early afternoon of Thursday.

His first port of call in the state was at the palace of the Olu of Warri, who received him affectionately in his personal home. The two hugely respected traditional leaders conferred amicably for over an hour.

After the initial pleasantries, the Emir of Zaria explained that he was in Delta state to receive an honorary degree award from Western Delta University. He said that he saw it wholesome to call on the Olu of Warri and so came to him straight from the Airport.

The Olu welcomed the august visitor warmly, through the presentation of kola nuts and “wedging” those kola nuts with money in the true spirit and tradition of the Itsekiri and their neighbours.

The Olu prayed for God’s blessings on the Emir of Zaria all through his visit to Delta State, during the WDU convocation ceremonies, and wished him a safe trip back to his domain.

The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR will be conferred with the degree of Doctor of Public Affairs tomorrow, Saturday 2nd November 2023.

The Emir ascended the throne after posting remarkable successes as a lawyer, banker and diplomat.

He is a former Nigerian Ambassador to Thailand with concurrent accreditation to Myanmar, and the current 19th Fulani Emir of Zazzau, the Zaria Emirate Council, in Kaduna state.

He is the first Emir from the Mallawa ruling house to be enthroned in a century after the dethronement of his grandfather, Emir Alu Dan Sidi in 1920.
