U.S. UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting With Nigerian Minister of Defence & Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Read Outs Below)

U.S. & Nigeria

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Representative of the United States to the United Nations, met Wednesday today with Nigerian Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.

The Ambassador thanked Nigeria for its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations and its commitment to supporting regional peace and security, including in Mali and Sudan.

They also discussed the critical role of ECOWAS in promoting democracy in Niger and throughout West Africa.

U.S. & Ghana

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met Tuesday with Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in Accra, Ghana.

The Ambassador expressed the United States’ appreciation for Ghana’s leadership in hosting the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial and their role in peacekeeping operations globally.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Foreign Minister Botchwey discussed opportunities for cooperation on a range of regional peace and security issues, including providing predictable and sustainable financing for African Union Peace Support Operations.

They also discussed the situation in Niger and democratic backsliding across West Africa, as well as the urgency in addressing the conflict in Sudan and ending massacres taking place across Darfur. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked Foreign Minister Botchwey for Ghana’s strong partnership on the Security Council.
