- Describes Ogene as a man driven by purpose
Labour Party (LP) stalwart and a former governorship candidate in Anambra State, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, has again formally thanked the people of Ogbaru Local Government Area for the support they gave Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, and for the overwhelming support they gave him at the State Governorship election in November 2021.
Mr. Ozigbo was on ground to support Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, LP member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency and Chairman, Hose of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy, as he embarked on an all-day Victory Thanksgiving Programme.
The programme of events, which took place on Sunday February 25th, 2024, commenced with a 7am Service at St. Luke’s Anglican Church Okpoko, Ogbaru LGA; a 10am Holy Mass at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru LGA and concluded with a grand reception at Central School Field, Odekpe, Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State.
Ozigbo, while speaking at the reception, said: “Ogbaru people, keep the faith! You are a forward-looking people and I am always proud of you all. When I contested the Governorship election in 2021, I had landslide victory in Ogbaru. You were the only ones that said indeed, I am the right person to be the Governor of Anambra State. And today, other constituents have all agreed that you were right all along.”
He later told journalists that “Hon Afam Ogene is a man driven by purpose. He knows where he is headed. He knows the problem of this country. And he has the burning desire to bring a change. That is what I see in him. And that is why I am here. That is also why I have followed him all through, from here to the other church services, and to the reception. With Ogene, my bond with the Ogbaru people have become stronger, I am extremely happy to be here. And this is my home.”
Ozigbo also canvassed for the entrenchment of the right leadership at all the levels of government including the grassroots, stating that it is time to elect people with credible character and not transactional politicians as this is the only way for good governance to take root.
Hon. Ogene, during his appreciation speech, recalled the hurdles and challenges his campaign organisation faced during and after the election concerning the validity of his emergence as the winner for the representative seat of Ogbaru Federal Constituency. Detailing the arduous legal battles he fought with the opposition which all ended in his favour, Ogene, who is also a devout Christian, noted that the Thanksgiving outing was his first official church appearance since his inauguration as a member of the House of Representatives as he had vowed to give thanks first, at his home Church.
In the same vein, he thanked the people of Ogbaru for the relentless and continuous support they gave him, before, during and after the polls.
