All Israeli Forces On ‘Full Alert’ Amid Iran Threat: What Are Iran’s Missile Capabilities?

All Israeli forces are on “full alert” amid the threat of an Iranian attack, the Israeli military has said.

Announcing the measures in a televised briefing, chief military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said dozens of combat planes were airborne as part of the state of readiness.

“The army forces are prepared very strongly in attack and defence and in a wide deployment,” he said.

School trips and other youth activities planned for the coming days, the beginning of the Passover festival, have also been prohibited by the Home Front Command.

Since a strike on its embassy in Syria last week, Iran has been threatening to attack Israel.

Earlier today, Iranian commandos seized an Israel-linked cargo ship with 25 crew members on board, landing on the vessel via helicopter.

In the hours after, Israel has put all its forces on “full alert”, made dozens of combat planes airborne and changed its Home Front Command defence guidelines.

Iran has developed a range of ballistic missiles and drones in a programme that has long worried the West.

The missiles are an important part of the arsenal at Tehran’s disposal as it threatens to attack.

Here we take a look at some of its missile capabilities:

According to the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Iran is armed with the largest number of ballistic missiles in the Middle East.

The semi-official Iranian news outlet ISNA published a graphic this week showing nine Iranian missiles it said could reach Israel.

These included the ‘Sejil’, capable of flying at more than 17,000 km per hour and with a range of 2,500 km, the ‘Kheibar’ with a range of 2,000 km and the ‘Haj Qasem’, which has a range of 1,400 km.

In August, Iran said it had built an advanced homemade drone named Mohajer-10 with an operational range of 2,000 km, capable of flying for up to 24 hours.

The country has also claimed to have a domestically made hypersonic ballistic missile, which can fly at least five times faster than the speed of sound.

Iran also has cruise missiles such as Kh-55, an air-launched nuclear-capable weapon with a range of up to 3,000 km and the advanced anti-ship missile the Khalid Farzh.
